a week of riding + adventure in africa

Embark on an unforgettable 7-night journey that combines the thrill of a Zambian horse safari with the awe-inspiring beauty of Victoria Falls. This extraordinary itinerary invites you to experience Africa’s wilderness firsthand, with diverse landscapes, captivating wildlife, and enriching cultural encounters.

Highlights

  • Kick off your journey at the luxurious Chundukwa River Lodge, located just 25 kilometers from Livingstone and the world-renowned Victoria Falls. Nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River, this retreat offers spectacular views and a front-row seat to the Zambezi River - famous for its outstanding wilderness, birding and wildlife.

  • The following day, embark on an exclusive horse safari in the remote Simalaha Wilderness. Accessible only by horseback, this pristine region is ideal for exploring the wild plains, where seasonal flooding creates a landscape that vehicles cannot traverse.

  • Well-trained horses accustomed to wildlife allow you thrillingly close encounters with giraffes, zebras, and antelope as you gallop across the plains.

  • Though secluded, your stay in our eco-camp is anything but rustic. Enjoy plush linens, an eco-friendly pool that doubles as a wildlife viewing hide, and fresh, healthful meals. End each day under starlit skies, feeling truly connected to nature here.

What you'll love

If you crave an adventure to one of the most remote and serene places in Zambia, the Simalaha Wildlife & Community Conservancy might just be calling your name. And best of all, it's completely eco-friendly, so you'll be leaving paradise just as you found it!

Insiders tip

For keen birders, this remote and lesser-known conservancy is a hidden gem. This area of Zambia is famous for the rare and elusive Shoebill, as well as a variety of waterfowl and waders. Don’t forget your binoculars!

Something to think about

When planning a safari in Zambia during July and August, remember that while the days can be pleasantly warm, the mornings and evenings can be quite surprisingly chilly! Layers and warm clothing will be essential.

  • “Best horse riding safari in Africa! This was my fourth time at Simalaha and I loved every second of it. It always starts with the most majestic boat trip on the Zambezi River that transports you into a place where you find everything a horse and nature lover could possible seek.

  • You can start riding for hours and hours across the floodplains, canter with zebra, enjoy giraffe, buffalo, ostrich and antelopes of all kind on horseback on the best trained horses I have ever met on a safari. Doug is just an inspiration when it comes to understanding horses. I can't wait to come back.”
