Getting to our horse safari camp is part of the adventure!

We are based in the Simalaha Wildlife Conservancy in Western Zambia — a pristine wilderness shared by wildlife, local communities and our beloved horses.

Most riders fly into Livingstone Airport, Zambia where our driver will be waiting to collect you.

From here, it’s a 25-minute transfer to our home base, Chundukwa River Lodge, nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River. If you’re arriving the day before your safari begins, we recommend spending the night with us at Chundukwa — a perfect place to rest, meet the team, and soak up the magic of the river.

Our multi-day horse safaris depart from Chundukwa at around 8:30a.m. The journey begins with a 40-minute road transfer to Mambova, a small, bustling African harbour where local villagers and fishermen trade their daily catch — a lively scene of colour, laughter, children, goats, and chickens!
By this point, you’re well off the tourist circuit and en route to a truly remote and special corner of Africa.

From Mambova, the adventure continues by river. This 2-hour boat journey takes you upstream on the mighty Zambezi, Africa’s fourth-largest river. It’s a journey filled with wonder — you may spot hippos and crocodiles basking, fishermen in their traditional mokoros, cattle grazing along the banks, and glimpses of riverside village life. As the river narrows and the wilderness deepens, keep an eye out for Doug, our team, and the horses, saddled and waiting to welcome you ashore. From here, you’ll ride into camp — the perfect start to your Zambian horse safari adventure!
